Responsible Play
Play with your eyes open
The Shoe simulates blackjack for skill training. No real money is wagered, won, or lost in this app. Strategies shown maximize expected value over many hands; outcomes on individual hands are random.
Variance is real
Even perfect basic strategy loses about half a percent of each bet in the long run. A single table session can swing by many betting units in either direction. The math describes thousands of hands, not five.
6:5 is a tax
Some tables pay 6:5 on blackjack instead of 3:2. Each natural pays 1.2 betting units instead of 1.5, adding roughly 1.4 percentage points to the house edge. The Shoe flags every 6:5 table because it's the single biggest avoidable cost most casual players take.
If gambling is hurting you
Call 1-800-GAMBLER (1-800-426-2537) for confidential support, 24 hours a day, anywhere in the United States. Visit ncpgambling.org for resources, self-exclusion programs, and treatment options. In California, the helpline is 1-800-GAMBLER or text SUPPORT to 53342.
Boundaries before you sit down
Decide your stop-loss and stop-win before the first hand. Walk away when you hit either, regardless of how the table feels. Never play money you'll need next month. Never chase losses with bigger bets.
If you're not sure whether you have a gambling problem, you probably don't — but the people who do almost always thought the same.
